In Montessori education, there aren\u2019t rewards and punishments. Dr. Maria Montessori strongly believed in the child\u2019s inner need to do productive work. Sensitive periods provide an internal urge and stronger reinforcement than any rewards or praise could do. \u201cThe essence of independence is to be able to do something for one\u2019s self. Adults work to finish a task, but the child works in order to grow, and is working to create the adult, the person that is to be.\u201d \u2013 Maria Montessori. Here in Children Today Montessori teachers highly value the child\u2019s work, and we illuminate their effort.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Descriptive Praise Guidelines:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Describe what you see. \u201cYou\u2019re jumping rope!\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Notice the positive outcomes or benefits. \u201cThat\u2019s good exercise!\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Be grateful if appropriate. \u201cThank you!\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
